Terms of Service

Last updated: July 10, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of ChowLog (the “Service”), operated by the ChowLog team (“ChowLog,” “we,” or “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use ChowLog.

1. Eligibility & Accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use ChowLog. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at legal@chowlog.com if you suspect unauthorized use. You may not create an account on someone else's behalf without their permission, or maintain multiple accounts for abusive purposes.

2. The Service

ChowLog lets you discover restaurants, write and read reviews, save favorites, and connect with friends. Restaurant information is sourced in part from the Google Places API and may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate — always confirm details like hours, menus, pricing, and allergen or ingredient information directly with the restaurant before relying on it.

3. Content You Post

You retain ownership of the reviews, ratings, photos, and other content you post (“User Content”). By posting User Content, you grant ChowLog a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute it as part of operating and promoting the Service. You represent that you have the necessary rights to any content you post, including photos, and that it doesn't violate anyone else's rights.

Reviews and opinions posted by users are their own. ChowLog does not verify, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of any review, rating, or User Content, and is not responsible for it.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Post false, defamatory, or misleading reviews, or reviews for a restaurant you haven't actually visited
  • Post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, or infringes someone's intellectual property or privacy
  • Impersonate any person or entity
  • Post reviews in exchange for compensation from a restaurant without disclosing it
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
  • Attempt to access accounts, data, or systems that aren't yours
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or use automated tools to access the Service beyond normal use
  • Circumvent rate limits, security controls, or other technical protections

5. Restaurant & Third-Party Data Disclaimer

ChowLog is a discovery and review platform — we don't own, operate, inspect, or endorse any restaurant listed. We aren't responsible for the quality, safety, cleanliness, or any incident (including illness or allergic reaction) arising from a visit to a restaurant found through ChowLog. Restaurant data such as hours, location, photos, and ratings comes in part from the Google Places API and other third parties, and may not be accurate or current.

6. Intellectual Property

The ChowLog name, logo, design, and underlying software are owned by ChowLog and protected by intellectual property laws. Except for your own User Content, you may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our permission.

7. Copyright Complaints

If you believe content on ChowLog infringes your copyright, email legal@chowlog.com with a description of the work, the location of the infringing material, and your contact information. We'll review and remove infringing content where appropriate.

8. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings > Account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — will continue to apply.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any information on it — including restaurant information and user reviews — is accurate or reliable.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ChowLog and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Service will not exceed $100.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold ChowLog and its team harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from your use of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Utah, and you consent to that jurisdiction.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use ChowLog after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. General

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver of it. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and ChowLog regarding the Service.
